Amplifying New Country Music Talents

At Duncan Music Group, Inc. dba Jerry Duncan Promotions, an independent country music promotion company, we work with the small and medium market radio stations that report to the Mediabase Activator Chart, Mediabase Independent Chart, and the Music Row Breakout Chart. These are the charts where new artists start and build their careers, and established artists can continue to grow their careers.

Our integrity and honesty has kept us in the forefront of the music/ promotion business since 1982. Not every single we work becomes a #1 hit but we do get honest airplay and push hard for the artists we represent.

FAQs

  • Radio Tours – We use an outside source for booking radio tours.  The current fee is $70.00 per station booked.

  • XM and Nashville stations are not small and medium market stations. These stations are monitored large-market stations.

  • XM is less proactive on adding new Independent Artists than they were previously. A single needs a considerable amount of chart or "viral" action before XM will consider adding a single to their playlist.

  • Getting charted is a factor of how many stations report airplay (PDs must play the single at least five times a week to report spins) and how many spins they report. Spins can range from 5 spins (light rotation) to 25/30 spins (heavy rotation).

  • The chart consists of various levels of stations. Some stations are more initiative-taking and add independent music early; some wait until the single gets charted (#80 or higher on Music Row or Top 40 or higher on Activator or Country Aircheck) to add, and then some wait until it is at least Top 20 or Top 10 on the charts before adding. Each station is individual.

  • It can take 4-10 weeks for Programmers to listen to a new single and add it into rotation and begin reporting spins.

  • It can take 10-12 weeks before charting.

  • Each station reports a certain number of singles to the chart.  If a station has a playlist of 40 current singles (new music out on the radio), then they must wait for a single to peak (stop progressing on the chart) to add a new single in its place. To get added to a station, several things need to happen:

    • The song tests well and is liked by listeners and the Music Director/Program Directors.

    • There is room on their playlist to add to their list of current reported singles.

  • Please do not organize a street team or ask your friends and family to call Programmers requesting the record. Please do not give them the radio station's contact information.  It is okay if fans call the radio station organically where the record is being played, but programmers do not appreciate an organized campaign calling about the record. That is what our office is hired to do. When you hire Jerry Duncan Promotions, you hire us because of our reputation, track record, and long-standing relationship with Progammers and radio. We reserve the right to end the promotion campaign immediately if we receive complaints from Programmers regarding street team or family calls.  We have worked hard to establish a trustworthy relationship with Programmers and do not want to jeopardize that relationship in any way.

  • The benefit of having two or more promotion teams:  As a new Independent Artist, several things are working against you. The team(s) we work with may have a stronger relationship with a station than we do and vice versa, or the additional team(s) may be coming off a single that has peaked on the chart, which gives an open spot for a Programmer to add your single.  You compete with major labels with full regional promotion teams, in-house staff, and Independent Promotion team(s) working their singles.

  • We have some connections with TV and print publications, but that is not our primary function. If you are interested in those avenues of publicity, hiring a publicist would be in your best interest.  We have a list of reputable Publicists on hand that we will be happy to share.
